Barcode Scanners
A barcode scanner reads barcodes on products, cards or documents and sends the code to the computer, so items are billed or counted without typing. BSD Infotech’s billing, POS and inventory software works with standard barcode scanners, and we can advise on and arrange suitable scanners for your counters and stock areas.
Types of Barcode Scanners
1D scanners
Read standard product barcodes (EAN, UPC, Code 128). Suitable for most retail and pharmacy billing.
2D scanners
Also read QR codes and codes displayed on phone screens, such as digital coupons and tickets.
Handheld or presentation
Handheld scanners are aimed at the item; presentation (hands-free) scanners read items passed in front of them.
Corded or cordless
Corded USB scanners for fixed counters; Bluetooth cordless scanners for large or heavy items.
Choosing a Scanner
- Which codes you need to read — 1D only, or QR and phone screens too.
- Counter layout and volume — handheld or hands-free.
- Connection — USB for a PC or POS terminal, Bluetooth for movement.
- For scanning away from the counter (stock-taking, receiving), use an Android mobile computer with a built-in scanner.
