What Is POS Hardware?
POS hardware is the physical equipment at a billing counter: the POS terminal (the touchscreen computer that runs the billing software), a receipt printer, a cash drawer, a customer display, and input devices such as a barcode scanner or card reader.
A POS system is the complete setup: that hardware plus the POS software that records sales, takes payments, prints bills and keeps stock and customer records. A POS terminal alone is only one part of a POS system.

Integrated, All-in-One and Android POS Explained
Integrated / touch POS
A touchscreen and PC in one unit on a stand, with ports for the printer, cash drawer, scanner and customer display. The most common billing terminal for retail and restaurants.
All-in-one POS
An all-in-one POS also builds the receipt printer into the unit, which saves space on small counters. BSD’s 11.6" models include a thermal printer with an auto-cutter.
Android POS
An Android POS runs Android billing apps rather than Windows software. Choose it when your POS software is available for Android and the counter needs a compact device.

POS Receipt & Thermal Printers
A POS thermal printer prints bills and receipts without ink or ribbon, using heat-sensitive paper. Restaurants often add a second printer in the kitchen for KOTs (kitchen order tickets); a LAN printer can be placed there and addressed by the POS software, subject to configuration.

POS Cash Drawers
A POS cash drawer holds notes and coins under the counter and opens automatically when the POS software completes a cash sale — usually through the terminal’s cash drawer port (the POS-516 series has an RJ11 port).

Smart Card, NFC & RFID Readers for POS
This is where BSD differs from a standard POS hardware shop. BSD’s POS can be configured to identify members and pay with cards: smart cards, NFC cards or tags, and RFID cards or wristbands, including stored-value (e-purse) cards recharged at the counter. It is used in clubs, schools, colleges, canteens, institutional campuses and cashless environments.

Magnetic Stripe (MSR) for POS
Magnetic stripe cards are still common for membership, loyalty and gift cards. The POS-516 series can be fitted with a 1-2-3 track magnetic stripe reader as an optional accessory, and BSD supplies external USB magnetic stripe readers and encoders for other terminals. Build a Complete POS Counter
Not every counter requires every component. A cafe may need only a terminal, printer and cash drawer; a club adds a member card reader; a supermarket adds scanners and customer displays on every lane. BSD can configure the hardware according to the application.

Restaurant & Cafe POS
A restaurant counter usually needs a touch terminal, a receipt printer, a KOT printer in the kitchen, a cash drawer and often a customer display. BSD’s POS software supports bar and restaurant billing: the owner defines items, groups, taxes, tables and rooms, and sales can be made in cash, by credit or debit card, or as no-charge (NC) transactions, with inventory linked where configured.
POS for Clubs: Membership + Smart Card + Billing
Clubs commonly run several POS stations — restaurants, home delivery, shops and a bar. BSD provides POS for each, with member identification by smart card and billing to member accounts, working together with BSD’s club management software. For events where PC connectivity is not possible, handheld terminals generate the POS transactions with smart cards.
Canteen, Cashless & Campus POS
School and college canteens often run as an e-purse: each student’s smart card works like a debit card, is recharged, and is used to pay at the canteen, mess and other campus points, with every transaction recorded against the student account. BSD has implemented e-purse and POS solutions for schools and colleges. The same POS hardware also serves uniform shops and campus stores; canteens can run on cash and card billing without smart cards where preferred.
