Turnstile Gates, Flap Barriers & Boom Barriers for Controlled Entry

BSD Infotech supplies, integrates and installs turnstiles, flap barriers, swing barriers and boom barriers — connected with RFID, NFC, smart card, biometric or face recognition identification and software — for controlled entry at campuses, offices, factories, dining halls and clubs.

Proven at institutions: BSD Infotech has implemented turnstile, biometric, face recognition and UHF reader solutions across 20 institutions. For one university campus we installed a full-height turnstile with biometric identification — and the university came back for a second turnstile.

Full-height turnstile

A floor-to-ceiling rotating gate that lets one person through at a time. Used at perimeter and campus gates where entry must be tightly controlled, often without a guard.

Tripod turnstile

A waist-high turnstile with three arms. A practical choice for offices, factories and canteen or mess entry, where one-at-a-time passage is enough.

Flap barrier

Retractable flaps that open for authorised users. Suited to busy lobbies and dining halls where quick passage matters; it relies more on alarms and supervision than physical strength.

Swing barrier

A wider swinging gate for lanes that must also admit wheelchairs, trolleys or luggage. Often installed next to turnstiles or flap barriers.

Boom barrier

A rising arm for vehicle entry at gates and parking. Can be linked with RFID/UHF tags, or with identification devices on both sides for entry and exit.

Not sure which?

The right equipment depends on your security level, people flow, lane count and site. We recommend it after understanding the requirement.

A general guide — the final choice depends on the site, the number of users and the level of control required.

A turnstile or barrier opens when the user is identified and allowed through. Depending on the selected equipment and system, identification can be by:

  • RFID, NFC or smart card — quick card or tag entry for large user groups
  • Fingerprint (biometric) — identifies the person rather than a card
  • Face recognition — hands-free identification, for example face-and-fingerprint devices on flap barrier lanes
  • UHF tags — longer-range identification, typically for vehicles at boom barriers

Compatibility between a specific identification device and a specific turnstile is confirmed for each project. For a comparison of these technologies, see access control solutions.

The software supplied with a standalone biometric device usually manages that device alone. For campuses and multi-gate sites, BSD Infotech can provide customized in/out management software:

  • One central database for all gates — users are enrolled once, not copied to every device
  • Rules such as blocking re-entry for a set time, so one enrolled person cannot bring others through the turnstile
  • Real-time dashboard and central reports
  • Role-based access — administrators see every gate, gate staff see only their own
  • SMS integration and alerts where required
  • Integration with attendance and visitor management where required

Power backup matters: for turnstile projects we have included UPS units with built-in batteries so the gates keep working during power cuts.

Universities & colleges

Campus in/out management with turnstiles, biometric or card identification and central software.

Schools

Controlled gate entry for students and staff, with attendance where required.

Dining halls & canteens

Tripod turnstiles or flap barriers for mess and canteen entry, with card, fingerprint or face identification.

Offices

Lobby flap barriers or tripod turnstiles for employees, with visitor lanes where needed.

Factories

Worker entry and exit, often combined with attendance.

Clubs & gated premises

Member entry, and boom barriers for vehicles at main gates and parking.

The price of a turnstile, flap barrier or boom barrier project depends on the type of equipment, the number of lanes, the finish, the identification method, the software, power backup and installation. Share your requirement and we will send a quotation for the complete solution.

Turnstile & Barrier FAQs

A turnstile gate is an entry barrier that lets one person pass at a time after they are identified and allowed through, for example by a card, fingerprint or face. It is used for controlled pedestrian entry at campuses, offices, factories and dining halls.
A full-height turnstile is a floor-to-ceiling rotating gate for high-security entry, such as campus and perimeter gates. A tripod turnstile is waist-high with three arms, suited to supervised areas such as offices, factories and canteens.
A flap barrier uses retractable flaps for quick passage at busy entrances. A swing barrier has a wider swinging gate for wheelchairs, trolleys or luggage and is often installed next to other gates.
Yes, depending on the selected equipment. Turnstiles and barriers can be connected with RFID, NFC, smart card, fingerprint or face recognition identification. BSD Infotech has implemented turnstile, biometric, face recognition and UHF reader solutions across 20 institutions.
Yes. Boom barriers for vehicle entry can be linked with RFID or UHF tags, or with identification devices placed on both sides for entry and exit.
It depends on the equipment. For turnstile projects BSD Infotech has included UPS units with built-in batteries so the gates keep working during power cuts; power backup is planned during the site survey.
